Over two weeks, you’ll take part in every experience offered in our sustainable fashion tours. This is full immersion: into craft, culture, and community, offered only by Lubugo Tours.  Along the way, you’ll gather new skills and fresh perspectives not just on fashion, but on life itself.

Trip Overview

This immersive two-week experience invites you into Uganda’s vibrant world of fashion, culture, and community. Blending traditional craft and contemporary innovation, you’ll explore the heart of Kampala’s creative scene, learn hands-on textile techniques, collaborate with local designers, and journey through key fashion and heritage destinations from Masaka to Jinja, all topped off with a safari at Murchison Falls.

  • Behind-the-scenes in Uganda’s leading ethical fashion studios

  • Masterclasses in batik dyeing, banana-fiber weaving, Lubugo making, and glass bead jewelry

  • Cultural immersions: Mengo Palace, Kasubi Tombs, Ndere Cultural Centre, and Owino Market

  • Two-day fashion masterclass with local designers at IGC Studio

  • Collaborative design sessions at the Fashion Cypher in Jinja

  • Craft in Masaka – the homeland of Lubugo (barkcloth)

  • Optional safari adventure at Murchison Falls National Park

  • Optional adrenaline activities: bungee jumping, kayaking, white-water rafting in Jinja

Inclusions:
  • 13 nights of accommodation across Kampala, Masaka, Jinja, and Murchison Falls (Budget, Mid-range, or Luxury tiers)

  • Full board during remote stays; mixed basis otherwise (as requested)

  • Trekking permits, park fees, and all provincial entry charges 

  • Experienced workshop facilitators, artists, and interpreters during all fashion and textile sessions

  • English-speaking driver/guide, private 4×4 for all land transfers, specialist tour guides for all tours

  • Bottled water during travel

    • Mawejje Creations (banana-fibre textile)

    • Letasi Studio (batik dyeing)

    • Fashion Cypher in Jinja (collaborative community sessions)

  • Two-day fashion design masterclass with local designers

  • Entrance to all national parks and cultural sites (e.g. Mengo Palace, Kasubi Tombs)

  • Optional game drives in MurchIson National Park

  • All trekking permits, park fees, and provincial charges

Day 1: Arrival & Kampala Welcome

  • Morning: Airport pickup and check-in at boutique hotel in Kampala

  • Afternoon: Orientation session & welcome dinner with an introduction to Uganda’s fashion and craft heritage

  • Accommodation: Mid-range hotel in Kampala

Day 4: Textile Innovation Workshops

  • Morning: Visit Mawejje Creations – see how banana fiber is turned into fabric and try weaving techniques

  • Afternoon: Hands-on bead making at Ekilawuli Studio – transforming recycled glass into jewellery

  • Accommodation: same as Day 1

Day 7: Fashion Masterclass at IGC Studio

  • Morning & Afternoon (both days): Join a two-day collaborative masterclass with Ugandan designers to conceptualize and create your own textile or wearable piece using the techniques learned throughout the week

  • Accommodation: same as Day 1

Day 10: Agro-cultural Experiences in Masaka

  • Morning: Coffee tour, seasonal fruit harvesting, and local farm visit

  • Afternoon: Traditional music, dance, and craft workshop with women’s groups

  • Accommodation: Mirembe Country Home or  Banda Lodge Masaka

Day 13: Creative Exchange + Adventure Time

  • Morning: Lead or co-lead a creative activity at the Cypher or support youth-led projects

  • Afternoon: Optional adventures – kayaking, bungee jumping, or floating on the Nile (not included)

 

  • Accommodation: ​2 Friends Guesthouse or Lemala Wildwaters Lodge

Day 2: Kampala Cultural Heritage Day

  • Morning: Guided tour of Mengo Palace and Kasubi Tombs – deep dive into Buganda Kingdom and Lubugo legacy

  • Afternoon: Visit Ndere Cultural Centre – traditional music, dance, and storytelling performance

  • Accommodation: same as Day 1

Day 5: Design & Batik Immersion

  • Morning: Letasi Design Studio batik workshop – create your own fabric using wax-resist dyeing

  • Afternoon: Free exploration time or one-on-one feedback with facilitators

  • Accommodation: same as Day 1

Day 8: Travel to Masaka – Home of Lubugo

  • Morning: Scenic drive southwest to Masaka

  • Afternoon: Introduction to Lubugo heritage and cultural welcome by local artisans

  • Accommodation: Mirembe Country Home or  Banda Lodge Masaka

Day 11: Travel to Jinja – Uganda’s Adventure Capital

  • Morning: Travel eastward to Jinja, with scenic stops

  • Afternoon: Orientation at Fashion Cypher site, rest or optional river sunset cruise

  • Accommodation: ​2 Friends Guesthouse or Lemala Wildwaters Lodge

Day 14 - 16 : Safari at Murchison Falls (optional)

  • Optional additional Safari trip to Murchison falls 

Day 3: Market & Material Economy

  • Morning: Explore Owino Market – Uganda’s largest secondhand clothing market; sustainability, economy, and fashion

  • Afternoon: Tour IGC Studio – meet the team, tour the workshop, and learn about circular fashion processes

  • Accommodation: same as Day 1

Day 6: Fashion Masterclass at IGC Studio

  • Morning & Afternoon (both days): Join a two-day collaborative masterclass with Ugandan designers to conceptualize and create your own textile or wearable piece using the techniques learned throughout the week

  • Accommodation: same as Day 1

Day 9: Lubugo Craft Immersion

  • Morning: Witness bark harvesting and participate in barkcloth preparation: soaking, beating, softening

  • Afternoon: Lubugo design and decoration – explore modern applications of traditional cloth

  • Accommodation: Mirembe Country Home or  Banda Lodge Masaka

Day 12: Fashion Cypher Community Workshops

  • Morning: Join open sessions: upcycling, styling, screen printing, storytelling

  • Afternoon: Community lunch, followed by music and fashion jam session

  • Accommodation: ​2 Friends Guesthouse or Lemala Wildwaters Lodge
